Best of Tanzania
9 Days / 8 Nights
Tanzania is home to some of the world's most spectacular wildlife areas, and this itinerary takes you to all of them. From the vast grasslands of the Serengeti to the wildlife-packed Ngorongoro Crater and the remote Tarangire — famous for its enormous elephant herds and ancient baobab trees — this is Tanzania at its finest, ending with a few days of relaxation on the idyllic island of Zanzibar.
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. Transfer to your hotel in Arusha for an overnight stay. Evening briefing with your guide.
Drive to Tarangire National Park, home to the largest elephant population in northern Tanzania. The ancient baobab trees provide a dramatic backdrop for afternoon game drives along the Tarangire River.
Full day in Tarangire. Look for large predators — lion prides are frequently seen here — as well as the park's impressive variety of dry-country antelope and hundreds of bird species.
Transfer to the Serengeti via the Ngorongoro highlands. Enter the Serengeti and enjoy your first game drive across the iconic plains. Check in to your central Serengeti camp.
Full day in the Serengeti. Spend the morning tracking predators — cheetah, leopard, and lion are all regularly sighted — and the afternoon following large herds of zebra and wildebeest.
A second full day to explore the Serengeti's diverse habitats — from the kopjes of the central Seronera to the acacia woodlands of the western corridor. Bush lunch in a spectacular setting.
Transfer to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Check in to your crater rim lodge with sweeping views into the caldera. Afternoon descent into the crater for a game drive on the crater floor.
Morning flight from Arusha or Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar. Transfer to your beach hotel on the east coast. Afternoon at leisure — swim, snorkel, or simply unwind after the safari.
Final morning on the beach before transfer to Zanzibar airport for your onward or homebound flight. A perfect ending to an extraordinary East African journey.
